About Us
Welcome to Burkett's Country Store, located in the historic resort
community of Conneaut Lake in northwest Pennsylvania. We are dedicated to the quality and tradition of lakeside living and exploring. We have graciously served our customers since 1965.
Growing up as a summer resident at Conneaut Lake, Carl Burkett became hooked on the area and its history. After college and a tour in the Navy he returned to the Lake to open the store. His childhood interest in rocks, minerals and gem-cutting, led to jewelry making and other hand crafting. Betsy's interest in decorating was applied to store displays and merchandising. Over the years Carl's attention to quality and detail and Betsy's eye for design evolved into the unique mix of
jewelry, souvenirs, gifts, collectibles and handcrafted merchandise which became the store's signature.
Conneaut Lake's unique charm creates a strong attachment for both resident and visitor and desire for a tangible reminder of the experience. Several years ago a middle aged customer announced: "You know, I still have the Indian headdress that my parents bought me here when I was eight years old." This reminder reinforced our desire to provide the things people will want to keep. Our goal is that our goods become souvenirs of discoveries and memorable experiences.
We fondly remember the friends we made with our log house, bumper boats, frog jumping contest, and Do Wopp.
We sold our store in 2005, but Carl continues to design our unique products at the Boatshed building across the pond from the old store.
